Whats the rundown on houston living?

i am seriously considering a move to houston this fall. ive looked into come of the suburban areas katy, cinco ranch, pearland, sugarland etc. id like to know about some middle income areas closer into houston. im looking to rent a nice home or townhome,dont want to buy too quickly, and good schools for my kids. i know sometimes the 'good' schools are in the burbs but im sure there has to be some good performing schools that arent. its really important to me that we have access to libraries, a ymca or rec center nearby, a park etc. also if anyone knows a good school to get an asociates in nursing that would be great! im an lpn/lvn and absolutely plan to finsh my degree once we relocate. thanks so much in advance!
