Army family questions?

So here's my situation; I enlisted in the army reserve as a 68WM6 (LPN/LVN). I leave for basic in about 4 months and will be training for about 72 weeks. I have an awesome family (beautiful wife and 2 year old son) whom I would do anything for. Now I would be lying if I said that I haven't given this all second and third thoughts, but after some serious thinking, I know that this is the right decision in the long term as I will have many more opportunities to support them with my new set of skills. I would like to know from anyone else, especially those who've had similar situations, what it was like. How did you cope? what got you through it? Did you visit each other often? Did you get a chance to talk often? How did your family deal with it? Any kind of advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
