Dealing with a pet death and perhaps an insensitive boyfriend?

Honey, being a pet-owner myself, I understand your pain. What you have to understand is that your bf sounds like he does not know how to relate to you over your loss, and that lack of knowledge is making his uncomfortable. Yes, he should talk to you, and listen to you, and grieve with you, and be more perceptive of your needs. However, in the final analysis, he is a guy, and he is responding in a typical male manner. I do think that you are over-reacting, possibly because of the unhappiness through which you are going. Give it some time. And remember, we guys are dense. We are not touchy, feely, mind-readers. Talk to us, explain what you want/need, and allow us the opportunity to give it to you. Don't sit quietly waiting for us to all of a sudden read your mind and fulfill your innermost desires. You are not selfish; just a little preoccupied.
